Gasfitter - Job Summary

 As a Gasfitter, you will be responsible for the installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of gas supply systems, appliances, and equipment. This role spans residential, commercial, and industrial settings, ensuring all installations operate safely and efficiently in accordance with New Zealand regulations and PGDB requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Installation: Install, alter, and repair high- and low-pressure gas supply lines, meters, regulators, and cylinders.
  • Appliance Commissioning: Connect and commission gas appliances like water heaters, cooktops, boilers, and space heaters according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Testing & Certification: Conduct pressure and leak tests to verify system integrity and issue required Gas Certificates of Compliance (CoC) and Gas Safety Certificates.
  • Maintenance & Diagnosis: Perform routine inspections and use specialized instruments for diagnostic testing and fault-finding to identify leaks or malfunctions.
  • Safety & Compliance: Decommission unsafe appliances, respond to emergency leaks, and ensure all work adheres to NZ building codes and gas safety standards.
  • Collaborative Support: Work alongside plumbers, electricians, and builders, occasionally assisting with minor plumbing tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Registration: Must hold a current Gasfitting Registration or Practicing License issued by the Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying Board (PGDB) of New Zealand.
  • Qualification/Experience: A recognized trade qualification in gasfitting OR a minimum of three (3) years of relevant practical experience.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of gas systems, piping materials (copper, steel, composite), and specialized testing equipment.
  • Safety Focus: Full commitment to safe work practices, including hazard identification and proper use of PPE.
  • Requirements: High attention to detail, physical fitness for demanding tasks (including confined spaces), and a full drivers license.
