Job Summary: Fitter and Turner
Position Overview As a Fitter and Turner (Machinist), you are responsible for the manufacture, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components, machinery, and equipment.
This role is vital across manufacturing, construction, engineering, and repair industries, ensuring the reliability and precision of metal components and industrial systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Precision Machining: Operate and maintain machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to produce precision metal parts.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform fault diagnosis, routine maintenance, and repairs on mechanical systems to minimize downtime and prevent equipment failure.
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine dimensions and assembly requirements.
- Assembly & Installation: Assemble and align mechanical components such as shafts, bearings, and gear systems, performing on-site installation as required.
- Welding & Fabrication: Execute basic welding (MIG, TIG, or arc) and fabrication tasks to support assembly or repair operations.
- Quality Control: Measure and verify components using precision instruments like micrometers and vernier calipers to ensure they meet design tolerances.
- Qualifications & Skills
- Certification: A recognized trade qualification in fitting and/or turning, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of practical experience in fitting, turning, and machining within industrial environments.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of machining processes, mechanical assembly, and precision measurement.
- Safety Commitment: Strict adherence to health and safety guidelines and the ability to maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Soft Skills: Proven problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and effective communication skills for team coordination.
- Requirements: Must hold a valid drivers license and be physically fit for heavy lifting and standing for extended periods.
