Fitter-Welder - Job Summary
As a Fitter-Welder, you are responsible for the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of metal components and structures. This role combines precision alignment with expert welding and fabrication to ensure high-quality, accurately engineered products across the manufacturing, construction, and engineering sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication & Assembly: Assemble, align, and fit metal components and structures, ensuring accuracy and proper tolerances before welding.
- Welding Operations: Perform high-quality welding using MIG, TIG, arc, or oxy-fuel processes for a variety of metal types and thicknesses.
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and layout specifications to determine material needs and assembly sequences.
- Maintenance & Repair: Conduct repairs and maintenance on existing metalwork, machinery, and fabricated structures, including replacing worn sections.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect and test completed welds and assemblies, identifying and correcting any defects to meet structural and visual standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including hot work and confined space procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
- Trade Qualification: Hold a recognized trade qualification in fitting, fabrication, or welding, or possess equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience in fitting and welding within a workshop or site environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of fitting and welding techniques, along with competence in operating hand and power tools like grinders and plasma cutters.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot and correct technical or fabrication challenges efficiently.
- Requirements: High attention to detail, physical fitness for demanding tasks, and a valid drivers license.
